How to Play

The Tales of Yore is a family-friendly point-and-click RPG adventure you can play with friends. When in doubt, try clicking or tapping on the things you see on screen to interact with them.

There are friendly non-player characters (NPCs), hostile enemies, tough bosses who drop rare, epic loot, and a lengthy, intertwining chain of quests that walk you through the world and lore of Yore. For seasoned MMO veterans, this game might seem grindy or mean, but taking your time to explore every nook and cranny will reward you.

Get to know the land of Yore and in return you will learn many secrets and become powerful.

Walkthrough

Once you create a character and log in, you're immediately put into the center of Aria, the starting town in Tales of Yore. You learn there is a new evil that threatens the land, that monsters and demons have returned, and that Yore needs heroes.

You start with a Sword, a Shirt, a Belt and Black Boots equipped.

Talk to Yoric about where to start. He suggests you head south to the crypts to kill zombies.

Before you go, speak to the residents of Aria to get all of the available quests.

In Sharps Shop you can find 2 crates and a chest that will have gold in them. Just outside of Sharps Shop there is a crate with some gold in it.

Dalf potioneer - Eight Legs will give you a very special spell but will only give it to you in exchange for a spider fang.

In Pots of Potions you can read the book The Trinity.

Mirf townsfolk - An Eye for an Eye according to legend, there is a hideous monster down in the crypt. Bring Mirf it's eye and he'll give you a reward.

In Mirf's House upstairs you can read the books The Lost Cow and The Art of Combat.

Gaffer Barbarian - A Good Beer wishes for a reward for his years of vanquishing evil. He'll give up his old sword if you bring him a really good beer.

To the east is Caws Mawr Farm, where Wurzel farmer - Get Me a Sandwich is tired and hungry from working on the crops, but can't get to town to get any food. Bring him a sandwich and he'll give you some gold in return.

In the Farm House you can read the book Kings of Yore.

Head south towards the Aria Graveyard and speak to Igor grave digger - Lost Locket ask him about zombies and he'll tell you he lost his wife's locket to one of them. He needs you to find it in the crypt. Ask Igor about the flowers and he'll tell you the most wonderful range of flowers grow in the graveyard.

To get started, you'll need to kill some monsters to gain gold. From the Aria Graveyard, head into the crypt and down to level 2.

Kill Zombies until you get 200 gold and the Gold Locket and head back to Igor. Tell him you found the locket and he will reward you with his old Leather Helmet and 250 gold.

From here head to The Frosty Parrot and speak with Dibbler. Buy 1 Sandwich and a few Corn to eat so you can regenerate health and mana. You can open your inventory by clicking on the bag icon in the lower right corner. Open your inventory select the Corn and eat one to reset your hunger and regenerate health.

Head back east to the Caws Mawr Farm and give the Sandwich to Wurzel. Mention food and he will give you 400 gold in thanks.

At this point you should have 500-600 gold, so head to Sharps Shop and buy Leather Armour for 400 gold and a Rod for fishing for 100 gold.

Equip the Leather Armour and then head back to The Frosty Parrot. Click the golden bank chest and make sure to deposit your old Shirt and all of the extra gold you may be holding. If you die, you will drop all unequipped items and gold, so it's a good idea to periodically deposit things in your bank chest.

The exception is items that have the Lock Icon, such as the Rod.

Head over to the small pond in Aria and click on the water to fish. You might fail the first few times, but keep trying and eventually you'll catch a Trout. If your character says 'The fish have stopped biting here' you just need to move to another pond and try again. There is another pond in the Caws Mawr Farm you can continue fishing in.

Fishing is a very useful gathering skill because you can eat the fish you catch to keep your hunger at bay.

Depending on your desired play style, you can take a few different paths. This walkthrough will focus on a fighter-style player, one who uses swords. You have many options from here, including mage, archer, thrower and mace-wielder. Since you will need to build up skills to progress down any of these paths, you can buy all starting items from the two shops in Aria; spells from Dalf and various weapons from Onan.

To get the next level sword, we need 500 gold and a sword skill of 2, so return to the Crypt and kill zombies until you have 1000 gold, which should also be enough to level you properly. Head to Pots of Potions and pick up the Lesser Shield rune, then go to Sharps Shop and buy a Broadsword.

Equip the Broadsword and put the Lesser Shield rune in your hotbar at the bottom. Lesser Shield is how you can level your Enchantment which will let you cast healing spells later in the game. Put the old Sword and any extra gold you have in your bank, and then head back down to the Crypt to hunt the Beholder.

At this point you can solo the Beholder but you will need to bring about 5 Small Health Potion. Since Tales of Yore is a multiplayer game, it's usually easier to party with another player and fight the beholder together. Two players who have gotten this far in the guide should be able to dispatch the beholder if they attack together. Killing the Beholder will get you a Eye of Beholder.

Click on the other player twice and click the Party button to team up. You can cast your Lesser Shield on your party members too so everyone has a boosted defense.

With the Eye of Beholder, speak to Mirf in Aria. He will reward you with 500 gold.

Don't forget to deposit your extra items and gold in the bank, and then head out north from Aria into the Wilderness. Use your Lesser Shield frequently to boost your defense and level your Enchantment while fighting Bandit.

Follow the road north and head east when it forks, which will put you in the Sacke Outskirts. You can fish in the pond here to get more food, but once that's exhausted, follow the road south to find Sacke Town.

Head to The Rusty Spoon and speak with Miriam about Gaffer. She'll tell you that she remembers an old guy who talks too much from Aria, but that he thinks the beer in Sacke is too sour.

In Bumble Manor you can meet Lord Bumble toff but he doesn't have any quests for you at the moment. In the manor is a treasure chest you can get gold from.

The weapon and armor shop Axe and Blade will sell a Sickle you can use for Foraging for 100g and a Steel Helmet for 650g that has +3 defense but requires 12 Strength.

Head north out of Sacke Town and continue north through the trees to find a hidden Passage full of Goblin. Take the left branch of the passage that winds around and take the ladder up to The Glade. Here you can speak with Bo explorer - Love Letter Bo is stranded and cannot pass through the cave of goblins. He misses his home and his wife, Freya. If you ask about his wife he will tell you that she's back in Dondheim and must be worried sick. If you see her, tell her that he is safe.

Head back down and spend some time killing Goblin until you have 200g. Don't go down a level yet, as you are not strong enough to take on the Troll you will find down there.

Return back to Sacke Town and buy a Sickle so you can begin gathering Foraging materials. Put any Goblin Ear and extra gold in your bank, then head back out to the Sacke Outskirts. You can continue fishing but now you can forage the apple trees to gain Apple, as well as gathering any mushrooms or flowers you find.

Head back west to the Wilderness, and this time take the road towards the north, which will take you to the Mountain Pass and eventually, Dondheim.

Kill Goblin and continue north through a few areas until you read Dondheim.

Speak to Liko citizen - The Orb and he will tell you his father runs a boring city. He says he's fun and knows many secrets. Ask him about secret and he will tell you that he will tell you secrets if you bring something for his collection. Ask him what and he will tell you he collects ancient artifacts, and is looking for the Orb of Adur. Some lord or other to the south has it, and if you get it for Liko he will tell you the secret.

Head to Gorm's House and you can read the Old Tattered Book.

In Hearty Herbs talk to Baldur and buy a few Small Health Potion.

in Freya's House you can speak with Freya about her husband. She says they were separated on their last adventure, and wonders if he has perished or if she will ever see him again. Tell her that Bo is alive and she will give you a letter to return to Bo.

Head into Dondheim Castle and speak to Idon ruler - Lend Me Your Ears ask him about troubles with his son. He says Troll continue to attack his people, and he believes that his idiot son and magic are to blame. Ask about the trolls and he will reward you with dondheim armor if you can bring him 10 Troll Ear.

There are two chests in Dondheim Castle behind Idon you can open for some gold.

Thore sells a Pickaxe for mining for 300g, some Leather Greaves for 50g, and a Wooden Shield for 200g. If you have the gold saved up, go ahead and buy and equip these items.

In The Mighty Horn you can talk to Erik innkeeper about Gaffer. He says that Gaffer hangs around in taverns everywhere, and that once he came in an spat out the beer.

Take a chance here to put any extra forage items and gold in the bank.

Head back south to Sacke Outskirts and go through the Passage and up to The Glade to speak with Bo. Make sure to forage, fish and kill monsters along your way!

Speaking with Bo with the Love Letter in your inventory, he will be incredibly happy to receive it, and promises to stop complaining. Talk to Derrick explorer about the letter and he will be grateful at the reduction in whining and give you a Sabre.

Return to Sacke Outskirts and continue east along the road, which will eventually take you to Gombard.

Speak with Janice busy body - Mark of Gombard and she will call you a ruffian and say you lack a marker. Mention the marker and she says all true Gombardians have one, and that you're nobody without one. Ask how to get a mark and she will say she has one to give, in exchange for an artifact of Lord Gombard. Ask about artifact and she says there is a precious scroll written by Gombard himself. Bring her the scroll and she'll give you the mark.

In the potion shop Bright Sparks, speak with Bong soothsayer - Shattered about stories and he will tell you about the stuff of legends, such as a magic chicken that could not be killed and cows that exploded. Mention spells and he will remember an old spell rune that was smashed. Bong says the mages around these parts all have a piece. If you bring him the pieces, he can fix it.

In Bright Sparks you can read the book Of Elves.

There is a crate outside of Bright Sparks that contains some gold.

The Sloop Inn is where you can find Heckle barkeep. Mention Gaffer and he will tell you that Gaffer is a regular. He hands you a beer and puts it on Gaffer's tab.

Beside The Sloop Inn is a chest that contains some gold.

In Cleavin Axes talk with Gunther blacksmith - What An Idiot about straits and he'll tell you that the big blue things to the east are the Straits of Gabal. He's traveled to the other side and brought back all sorts of things. Mention things to him and he says that if you call the mayor an idiot he'll give you some throwing weapons.

In Cleavin Axes there is a silver chest that will give you some gold and 10 sandwiches.

Enter Ursula's House and talk with Ursula lady - Paws for Thought about a necklace. She says she can make necklaces that are either pretty or lucky. If you say lucky she will ask for an Animal Paw to make something for you.

Tn Ursula's House you can read the book Culinary Masters which teaches you about vegetable hotpot, meat pie and Rae's potatoes.

In Town Hall Perkins mayor - Bow to the Orcs warns you to be cautious as many dark elements pass through his town. Mention dark and he says he often receive gifts from visitors in exchange for safety. Ask him about orcs and he will offer to reward you if you can bring him one of the orc bows they carry.

You can head north out of town and go fishing in the ocean or gather red berries from the bushes to skill up. Once you've finished exploring Gombard, head back south and west to return towards Aria.

Stop by Sacke Town and talk to Lord Bumble about Impish Dealings the orb. He says he has the old thing, but wants you to recover something for him first. Ask what and he tells you that he lost his diary in the Caves, and an Imp stole it. Bring it back to Lord Bumble and he will give you the orb.

When you are back in the Wilderness, look further west for a blue-roofed house. Enter Woodcutter's house and speak with Albert woodcutter - Stargazer He is incredibly sad and says things haven't been the same since she left, and that all she left him with is a rock. Ask him about the rock and he says he will give you the strange glowing rock in exchange for a Stargazer Lily to put on her grave.

Return to Aria Town and speak with Gaffer to give him the Beer. He is happy and calls you a "good un'". He gives you a Jeweled Sword and wishes you can find the evil you're looking for. The sword requires 14 strength and 16 sword to equip, so put it and any extra items you're carrying into your bank for now.

Continue south to the Aria Graveyard and speak with Igor about his flowers. He will gladly give you a Stargazer Lily. With the lily in hand, return to Albert in the Wilderness and he will give you the rock in exchange. It turns out the rock is actually a Shield rune, a more powerful version of your Lesser Shield. It requires 9 enchant skill, so you might not be able to use it yet, but it has a Lock Icon which means it won't drop on death.

From Albert's house, head east through the trees to a small cave entrance. Enter and descend into the Caves to fight Half-Orc. These are much tougher monsters but will level your sword and strength quite quickly. Watch your health though, 3-4 are enough to overwhelm you. It's smart to carry around a few Small Health Potions in case you get low. Once you hit 8 sword and 12 strength, return to Aria and exchange the Broadsword with the Sabre from your bank. Stock up on about 10 Small Health Potion (200g) and some Sandwiches and head back into the Caves.

The lower level of the Caves has Imp that might drop Lord Bumble's Diary. Be careful though, the Giant Spider also lives here and is too dangerous for you to fight just yet. Kill Half-Orc and Imp until you find the Diary, making sure to keep your potions and sandwiches stocked.

The Caves will require a few runs, so after you find the Diary or get bored, head back out to the Wilderness and instead follow the road west. This will take you to the Swamp Bridge but before you cross it, look for the secret path to the south. Continue south until you reach Shroom Town, the home of the Myconids.

The red-and-white-spotted mushroom house is the Myconid Library where you can read the books Tome of Mystic Items, Where the Wargs Are, and Shroomish.

In the brown-capped mushroom, speak with Fungus about why the cellar is locked. He will tell you that someone else might help you.

Return to the Myconid Library and speak with Toad librarian. Dark Arts You can ask him about the cellar and he offers to tell you how to get in, if you can bring him a book. Toad says he wants a copy of 'The Dark Arts' by C. Witchly.

The brown-and-white-spotted mushroom in the center contains the bank chest for this area.

The red-and-white-spotted mushroom on the lower left houses Cleft farmer. Big Blue He says you look very odd. Ask him what odd means and he says you look odd like the slimes. Then he's hit with a pang of hunger and tells you he craves blue slime to eat. Ask him about slime and he says if you bring him 5 blue slime he will give you a rare artifact as a reward.

The brown-and-white-spotted mushroom on the lower right is where Mycena bubbler lives. Ask her about rune and she will give you a piece of the rune. The Ooze Mention reagents and she says if you bring her 5 blobs of slime she will give you a family heirloom.

Head back to the Swamp Bridge and cross it. You can speak with Gavin kingdom guard on the way, Watch It and ask him what time it is. Gavin talks about how hard to keep track of what time it is and when certain things might happen. He also says that someone in Dondheim can make a device that tracks time, but that it's probably rumors.

Continue west into the Swamp, and fight off the Green Slime until you've collected 5 Green Slime (item). If you head one area south, you can fight both green and blue slimes to collect the slimes you need and level your Sword skill to 16.

Once you have 5 blue slime and 5 green slime, head back to Shroom Town. Talk to Mycena and she will say thanks by giving you an old bow, the Morlock Bow.

Head over to Cleft with the Blue Slime (item) and mention that you have some odd slime. He says to leave him to his slime and gives you some "old things" which are Blood Stones. Both of these are ranged weapons (archery and throwing) so put them in your bank inventory.

Withdraw and exchange the Jeweled Sword with your Sabre and you'll now be doing enough damage to take on tougher monsters. Head back to the Swamp and head further west until you reach the Deep Swamp. You'll find a bridge and an old swamp hut.

Inside the hut is a witch named Craggy old witch. She threatens you to leave or she'll make you part of her collection. Green Heart Mention the book and she'll tell you she wrote "The Dark Arts" and might have one copy left. She asks what you will trade for it, and she says she's working on a spell that needs the heart of a slime. If you bring it to her, she will give you her last copy.

Head back east to Sacke and return the Diary to Lord Bumble. He will hand you the Orb of Adur. If you have 650 gold in your inventory or bank, withdraw some and head to Axe and Blade to talk to Charlton and purchase a Steel Helmet.

NOTE: This is the first item with some detriments; the -mana regen and -focus will actively hinder some of your abilities, such as regenerating mana. If you remove the helmet, your mana regen will resume, so if you want to save gold on buying mana potions, spend some time in a town with your heavy armor off.

With the Orb of Adur in hand, head back to Dondheim and speak with Liko. Give it here and he will reveal the secret he knows, which is "there is a hidden dungeon in the swamps. Look for the old tree stump and you shall be surprised by what you find!".

Stop and talk with Thore before you leave, and purchase a Pickaxe for 300g, Chain Mail for 500g a Wooden Shield for 200g and a Red Cloak for 3000g. Your defense should now be 10, which is plenty to be taking on the next few boss monsters.

Speak with Baldur about the rune to get another rune shard.

Talk to Gorm and ask him about a watch. He says he used to make them all the time, but he feels so unlucky these days, and he's worried that he'll just break the pieces. If he had a lucky charm, maybe he could bring himself to make them again.

Stock up on about 20 Small Health Potion and let's go kill a spider! Head back south towards Aria and head into the Caves from the Wilderness. Descend down to level 3 of the caves and look for the Giant Spider. With a few potions and a lot of swings, you should be able to kill the Giant Spider and it will drop a Spider Fang. Bring the fang to Dalf in Aria and he will give you a new rune, Magic Missile.

Next, head west into the Swamp and look for the old tree stump. Enter the Stump dungeon and work your way as deep as you can. It would be wise to try and get your Enchanting up to level 9 so you can use the improved Shield rune. You can put the Lesser Shield on your hotbar and double-tap it to self-cast multiple times to get it up quickly.

This dungeon is very tough, mostly because the Purple Slime hit very hard. Take a few runs back to Aria and stock up on potions. 30-50 Small Health Potion and a Shield should be enough to get to level 3 of the Stump dungeon and defeat Mother Slime.

Try to minimize the number of slimes still around Mother Slime by picking them off while she's out of sight. Too many purples will reduce your health too fast, and getting her alone is almost guaranteeing a win.

Killing Mother Slime will get you a Slime Heart. Take the heart back to Craggy in the Deep Swamp and tell her you have the heart. She'll give you The Dark Arts (a book bound with human skin) which you can take back to Shroom Town and tell Toad you have the book. He will be incredibly excited to add it to his collection, and he says the cellar is locked with magic. He gives you an incantation to say to enter.

Speak with Toad again about scrolls and since you've been so helpful, he gives you the Scroll of Gombard (a scroll inscribed by Lord Gombard) but swears you to secrecy.

Since you have gained the favor of the Myconids, head down and shop with Mycena to buy the Minor Heal rune for 500g.

At long last, head all the way east to Gombard and speak with Janice. Ask her for the marker and hand her the scroll. She will mark you with the Seal of Gombard tattoo.

Now you're able to trade with the Gombardian Market. Shop with Jill stall holder and buy a Steel Shield for 400g. The Hard Leather Armor has less debuffs but isn't adding any defense so it's not worth buying for this build.

Next, talk to Richard and buy the Amulet Of Protection for 500g. Head to The Sloop Inn, equip your new items and deposit your old items and spare gold. Keep 1000g on hand though, so you can speak with Marcel ship captain and commission a trip to Bala.

You can enter House (Crane) to read the book Grimoire of Magic Stones.

The Salty Dog is the tavern here, and you can speak to Woody barman Barrel of Fun about rum. He tells you that while they get the rum shipments in Bala, distributing it out to the taverns is the hard bit. Offer to help and he'll give you 3 Barrel of Rum to deliver to Aria, Dondheim and Sacke. When you return after delivering the rum, he'll give you his father's boots, who used to be a knight.

Head into Hooks and Knives to talk to Sam blacksmith. Dem Bones He claims you're in the best weapon shop far and wide, and that he can make anything from anything. He says he's been having a competition with Becca to see who can make the strangest article. He's been reading about a bone mace but needs bones to make it. If you bring him 3 bones, he'll make the mace and win the competition.

Walk south and enter Dunroamin and talk to Ernie hunter. What a Racket He says it is nice to have a visitor. Even though his adventuring days are behind him, he hopes someone will help with all the monsters on the roads. He says he wants to start a heroes tavern. He's concerned about decorating the walls, and really wants something from the north. He says he already has lots of weapons and armor, but that he would swap some for some Snow Shoes. He offers you a helm from the dwarves if you give him the snow shoes.

You can read the book Pirate's Code in this house.

In the potion shop Mystic Mixtures you can speak with Becca herbalist Bold and Cold about things. She tells you that she can make most anything with the right ingredients. She's just heard of a magic shield spell that uses frozen blood, and wants to know if you know where to get some. If you say yes she'll ask if you can bring her 10 and she'll give you the rune that she makes in return.

You can buy a Heal spell from Becca which is more powerful than Minor Heal but takes 22 Enchantment before you can cast it.

You can read the book The Frozen North in Mystic Mixtures.

You can gather Teal Berries in Bala, which you should take the time to do until you have 5 and keep them in your bank chest.

Head north out of Bala and then east from the Plains of Balan. You'll come across a small group of explorers camped at the Swamp Edge. Continue east and north through the Swamp to work your way back around to Aria again.

Head into Pots of Potions and speak with Dalf about rune and he will give you the final Rune Shard.

In The Frosty Parrot talk to Dibbler and give her the rum. She'll ask you to tell Woody thanks!

Head east from Aria and enter the Passage north of Sacke. This time, head down a level where you can fight the Trolls. With your armor and Shield rune, you should be able to easily dispatch trolls until you have 10 Troll Ear. This is also a good opportunity to level your strength to 26, your sword to 24 and gain at least 3000 gold.

Go back west, and travel north to Dondheim. Take the 10 Troll Ear to Idon and he will call you a true warrior. He will give you a Full Helmet which is an improvement on your Steel Helmet.

Now enter The Mighty Horn and tell Erik you have the rum. He proclaims the warriors will be happy. Take this time to stash your old Steel Helmet and any gold and gathered items you might have in your bank chest.

Behind the castle in Dondheim is the Mountain Passage dungeon. To make it through to Manheim take the following path: right branch, then head left and look for the second ladder down. Continue straight left and take the next ladder down. Curve around to the right and head up and through the archway. Continue up and go through the final archway and you will reach the Mountain Clearing.

Here you can find Hyena; kill them until you get the Animal Paw, and then continue north until you reach Manheim.

Across the drawbridge, go into the potion shop Conjurer's Nest and talk to Revna herbalist Power Circle about spells. She will deny knowing any spells, but mention that she knows lots of things. She tells you that when she was in Sacke she heard tale of a magical circlet that had been lost, but that she doesn't remember who mentioned it.

In The Iron Goblet talk with Gudrun and Humble Champion he says he's been exploring this mountain for years. Mention explore and he will tell you that he and his old friend Coop used to travel the land, fighting evil and saving villages. If you say you've met Coop he'll wonder what happened to him.

You can read the book Dwarves of the Old World in the tavern.

There is a barrel next to Sune that will have gold and sometimes food in it.

In the western tower to the north of Manheim Castle you can find Svend inventor. Due South Ask what he can invent and he says he is working on a magical compass. He needs two components, but if you bring them to him he will give you a compass. He says he commissioned a wooden base from Shroom Town and a fine needle from Gombard.

In the eastern tower you can find Bayorn. Purple Bone Ask him about spells and he says to make a new spell he needs reagents. He asks for bones from the undead liche and some purple slime. Bring them to him and he'll make you a spell.

In this tower you can read the book Myth Magic.

A blacksmith standing next to an anvil is just outside the eastern tower. Speak to Harald blacksmith Gem Stone about a sword and he tells you that he's been trying to make a sword for a long time, but that he needs a big gem stone. If you bring him one, he'll make the sword for you.

Enter the castle and speak with Gourd castle guard Out of my Skull about a shield. He says if you like his colorful shield, you can get one too if you pass his test. He tells you that in a cave not so far from here there is an ancient tomb with an undead Dark Knight inside. If you bring his skull to Gourd, he will reward you with a shield.

Inga handmaiden mutters about how much cleaning she has to do, and accuses you of tracking mud over her nice clean floors. Try to pickup some mess and she will say her day is just cleaning, and that she wishes she had a hobby or a pet. Oh My Girl Mention Liv to her and she'll call her the golden girl! It seems she's always so happy and Inga doesn't know why. She gossips that Liv came from money but lives in the castle as a pauper.

Torsten man-at-arms is excited to have a visitor, and asks what you want to learn from his mastery. Ask him how to master and he asks you to prove that you are a warrior and he'll gift you a mighty shield. He tells you that there is a vile beast in the caves south of Manheim, a Cyclops. If you bring him the horn, you will prove your point.
